Like its branded counterpart Viagra, Edegra contains active component called Sildenafil citrate which is the original member and the prototype PDE-5 inhibitor. It most commonly takes around 40-45 minutes to show its action and the duration of action of this drug continues for around 4-5 hours, after ingestion.
Sildenafil Citrate which is the active ingredient in this generic medication acts by inhibiting the action of Phosphodiesterase-5 enzyme (PDE-5). When the action of this enzyme is inhibited, it results in the increase in Nitric Oxide levels which in turn causes an increased production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the body. This leads to the blood arteries to get enlarged and increased inflow of blood to the penis. Increased levels of cGMP also leads to relaxation of the penile smooth muscles. Both these actions leads to an increase in the flow of blood to the penis and the blood being retained for a prolonged period of time so that men are able to attain and maintain hard erections for longer time.
