Lotemax Eye Drops contains Loteprednol Etabonate (LE) a corticosteroid useful for treating inflammation produce by allergies, surgery, infection, and other conditions. This drug product is marketed by Bausch and Lomb. It is sold in the form of a 0.5% ophthalmic suspension. Loteprednol has low water solubility and is available in the form of a gel, suspension or ointment. Lotemax medication works by reducing the production of certain endogenous substances such as prostaglandins than produce pain, itching, and swelling. The active component was deliberately engineered to be a 'soft drug', one that efficiently produces an effect at the site of action and then rapidly breaks down to inactive components. This ultimately reduces the possibility of side effects. Lotemax medication is contraindicated in persons suffering from fungal, viral or mycobacterial infections.

Loteprednol is the active component present in Lotemax Eye Drops. It is a member of a class of drugs known as Corticosteroids. It does not develop dependence and is available on prescription at local pharmacy shops and online drugstores. It was approved for medical use in 1998 and was patented in 1980. The molecular formula of Loteprednol is C24H31ClO7 and the molecular mass t is 466.951 g/mol. The onset of action and duration of effect of this medication are not clinically established. Lotemax medication works by decreasing the production of substances that produce producing inflammation and pain. Loteprednol has good ocular permeation properties. Post ocular administration, this drug is gradually absorbed into the blood, so the quantity of this drug in the blood is very small, and, thus it is less likely to interact with drugs consumed by any route of administration except topical ophthalmic.

  • Lotemax Eye Drops are to be used, normally four times 24 hours.

  • For using these Lotemax drops, tilt your head backward and squeeze the required number of drops in eyes by holding the dropper above your eye and slightly pulling down the lower eyelid. Keep your eyes shut for a few minutes.

Lotemax drug should be avoided by persons having a have a history of cataracts, open-angle type of glaucoma, eye infections, open-angle type of glaucoma, severe nearsightedness (myopia), and diabetes.

  • Do not wear contact lenses while using these eye drops, the perseverative present in it can stain the lenses permanently.
  • Lotemax Eye Drops medication is not approved for use in persons under 18 years of age.
  • Lotemax Eye Drops medication should be used only for a short period. Inform your physician if your symptoms do not improve after using it for two days.
  • Place the bottle of Lotemax medicine in an upright position at room temperature away from direct heat and moisture.

  • Smallpox vaccine
  • Bromfenac

What should be done in the case of Overdose?

Lotemax Drops medicine can produce undesirable reactions if swallowed. 

Call 911 or poison control center right away if you witness symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or passing out. 

 

What if a dose of Lotemax Eye Drops is missed?

  • If you miss a dose, use the medication as soon as possible.
  • If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.
  • Never use two doses simultaneously.
