  • Additional Info

Generic Zyrtec, like its brand version, contain Cetirizine as the active element which is a specific blocker of the peripheral H1 receptors. It does not allow histamine, a biochemical involved in the allergic reactions, to exhibit its actions in the body. Second-generation antihistamines including cetirizine does not considerably cross the brain and thus have negligible effects on the central nervous system vs.first-generation drugs. These are less expected to cause drowsiness or memory loss.

Generic Zyrtec can be taken without food and available as 5 mg and 10 mg tablets to be swallowed as whole with a glass of water

Patients with Epilepsy

What should be done in case of Overdose?

In case of accidental or intentional overdose, treatment should be symptomatic or supportive, taking into account any concurrently swallowed medicines. No specific antidote to cetirizine is yet known. Cetirizine cannot be effectively removed by dialysis. Overdose symptoms may include feeling restless or nervous, and then feeling drowsy.

What if a dose is missed?

Take the missed dose as soon as you recollect. Missed dose should be skipped if time for next scheduled dose is close. Extra medicine consumption to make up the missed dose should be avoided.
