Generic Aleve contains Naproxen as an active ingredient. Naproxen is analgesic (pain-killer), anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic (fever reducing) properties. The working mechanism of Aleve is similar to other NSAIDs and like other NSAIDs, it is not exactly known. However, scientists opine that it works by no-specific inhibition of the enzymecyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2).

By inhibiting COX-1 and 2, Naproxen in Generic Aleve inhibits the prostaglandin biosynthesis in the body which are principal mediators of inflammation. Prostaglandin biosynthesis inhibitionin turn leads to the suppression of bradykinin which sensitizes the nerves and induces pain. A decrease of prostaglandins in tissues suppresses the pain and inflammation.

Generic Aleve is to be consumed as whole with a glass of water without crushing, splitting, chewing or breaking
