Generic Ecotrin contains Aspirin, also called as acetyl salicylic acid as an active element which is one of the oldest non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

Like other NSAIDs, Aspirin also has the ability to inhibit the prostaglandin biosynthesis by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase 1 and 2, non-specifically and rather permanently. • Long – term intake of large doses of Generic Ecotrin has been associated with kidney damage.
• Classified as pregnancy category C. It can cause early shutting of the fetal ductus arteriosus, delay labor and birth. Generic Ecotrin rises the bleeding time both in the newborn infant and in the mother due to its anti-platelet effects. Generic Ecotrin should be avoided in the last trimester. .

Stop using aspirin and call your doctor at once if you have:

• Ringing in your ears, confusion, hallucinations, rapid breathing, seizure (convulsions);
• Severe nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain;
• Bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
• Fever lasting longer than 3 days; or
• Swelling, or pain lasting longer than 10 days.

Which drugs cannot be taken with the drug

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe take following drugs with Aspirin:

• A blood thinner or other medication used to prevent blood clots
• Other salicylates

Simultaneous administration of Generic Ecotrin with anti-depressants should be avoided as it may cause an increase in the bleeding risk.

What should be done in case of Overdose?

Overdose symptoms are temporary hearing loss, seizure (convulsions), or coma. Seek prompt medical care in case if intentional or accidental overdose is suspected.

What if a dose is missed?

• Since aspirin is taken as needed, dosing schedule may not be needed.
• If on a schedule, take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
• Missed dose should not be consumed if there is almost time for next scheduled dose. Taking
• extra medicine to make up the missed dose can lead to overdose and can cause stomach ulcers or increased risk of bleeding.
